Category May 2026 September 2026 Change
Group I 10.25% 23.14% Up 12.89 points
Group II 16.11% 18.92% Up 2.81 points

What Stands Out in the Numbers

Group I Had the Biggest Jump

Group I is the highest of the four sessions at 23.14%. The number who passed rose from 9,350 in May 2026 to 23,210, about 2.5 times, even though only 9,064 more candidates appeared.

Group II Improved but Is Below September 2025

Group II rose from 16.11% to 18.92%, but it is still well below the 27.14% of September 2025. In the earlier three sessions Group II had a higher pass rate than Group I.

This time Group I is ahead by 4.22 points, so the usual pattern has flipped.

Both Groups Reached 13.21%

5,066 of 38,339 candidates cleared both groups, which is about 1 in 7.6. In May 2026 it was 2,820 of 33,304.

It is the highest both-groups rate among these four sessions.

What the Numbers Mean for You

About 231 of every 1,000 Group I candidates passed, along with 189 in Group II and 132 for both groups. So roughly 3 in 4 Group I candidates and 4 in 5 Group II candidates did not clear their group.

ICAI has not said why the rates moved this time. Pass rates swing from one session to the next, so do not read one session as a trend.

Per 1,000 candidates Passed Did not pass
Group I 231 769
Group II 189 811
Both groups 132 868
